Dunlap & Partners Engineers began in 1987 as Lanna, Dunlap and Spriggs and quickly developed a reputation for excellence in engineering design. In 2004 John Dunlap formed Dunlap & Partners creating one of Virginia’s premier mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design firms. The firm’s six partners and leadership team members are experts in their respective fields and have more than 150 years of combined experience. Their leadership sets the tone for our culture along with our proactive “What if …?” approach to working with our clients and partners.
There are three very important yet different components to “Who We Are.”
1. Dunlap & Partners Engineers are “GREEN.”
We are forward thinking, innovative and environmentally conscience engineers providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design services. We approach every project from the same perspective of “What if we could make our environment and buildings safer, and more sustainable?” LEED is in our everyday vocabulary and our methodology encompasses and encourages our clients to see through our “Rosy Green Glasses.”
We not only “Talk the Talk”, we “Walk the Walk.” We have 8 LEED Accredited Professionals on our staff and serve on national as well as the local levels of the United States Green Building Council. We have in-house training and LEED exam preparation sessions developed by John Dunlap. We provide lunch and learn seminars with CEU credits related to LEED for our clients and team members. We do our part by recycling everything from, paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum cans to recycling ink cartridges. Our true colors run “Green.”
2. Dunlap & Partners Engineers are “Experts” in what we do.
Our qualified professionals are licensed in 25 different states and the District of Columbia. We believe strongly in and promote continuing education, obtainment of other professional certifications, and participation and leadership in organizations including ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), ASPE (American Society of Plumbing Engineers) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). We also have Certified High Performance Building Design Professionals, Certified Healthcare Facility Design Professionals, Certified Commissioned Process Management Professionals, Energy Modeling Professionals, Energy Auditing Professionals and Energy Star Professionals on staff.
John Dunlap has served on many boards and was on the committee that developed LEED A.P. skills to be tested on LEED exams in 2008. We ask, “What If …” and examine elucidations which meet project requirements. Our goal is finding “the solution” which best matches our clients’ needs and expectations.
3. Dunlap & Partners Engineers are “Involved.”
Our collaborative teamwork includes involvement from our principals and project mangers on a daily basis. Three distinct teams work toward setting the goals to enhance each assigned project to run smoothly and have a successful outcome. In addition to work involvement, our professionals are also very involved in our community, outreach, and non-profit organizations. Whether it is CANstruction for the Food Pantry, golf for St. Joseph’s Villa’s Abuse Shelter or pulling weeds at one of Tricycle Gardens’s local farm gardens, our staff is dedicated to having an impact on our world and making it a better place to work and play. It’s what we do … no “What Ifs,” ands or buts about it! We would welcome the opportunity to answer any questions you may have or to discuss your particular needs.
