RR Smith Center for History and Art
Staunton, VA
M/E/P/FP design was provided for the renovation of an historic downtown facility for use as a museum facility. The 24,000 square foot, four-story multi-use facility is intended to promote art and history in the Staunton area, and contains galleries as well as seven classrooms. A portion of the project was financed through the use of historical tax credits.
Science Museum of Virginia Renovation
Richmond, VA
M/E design for the renovation of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s main science museum, a neoclassical John Russell Pope-designed structure dating from 1917.
Blandfield Plantation
Project Management and M/E/P and life safety design for a comprehensive upgrade to the utilities serving the historic Tidewater plantation. Project elements included a new fire and life safety system, a new security system, a new water filtration system, new emergency power generating system, and a new landscape watering system that is sensitive to the historic nature of the plantation’s main house.
Union Theological Seminary
Richmond, VA
Study alternatives and design documents were provided for the upgrade and renovation to utilities serving this historic landmark campus. With buildings and infrastructure dating from 1897, the Historic Quadrangle complex was in need of upgrade to meet current code and safety requirements. Our Plumbing, Electrical and Life Safety engineers provided an economical modification to support the campus growth and function into the future.
Virginia State Capitol – Electrical Utility Analysis and Renovation
Richmond, VA
Project Management and electrical analysis and design for the power and lighting upgrade to the Jefferson-designed state house in Richmond, Virginia.
Virginia Military Institute Commandant’s House
Lexington, VA
M/E/P/FP design services for the rehabilitation of the historic Maury House at Virginia Military Institute. Originally constructed in 1853, the A.J. Davis-designed building is located on the National Historic Landmark Parade Ground of the Post.
The National Theatre
Richmond, VA
This historic structure located in the Broad Street Corridor of downtown Richmond. Originally constructed in the 1920’s as a movie house, the building was abandoned in 1983. In 2002 the building was listed in the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. In 2006 Dunlap & Partners became part of the team challenged with designing the adaptive reuse of the National as a live entertainment venue.
Jamestown / Yorktown Visitor Center
Jamestown, VA
M/E/P/FP design for multi-phase construction on a historic 1607 site. Buildings include Visitor Reception & Cafe Building, theater & special exhibit gallery, permanent gallery, humidification retrofit for Yorktown museum, and a maintenance facility.
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Richmond, VA
Redesign of the mechanical systems central loop for the Museum complex, including the 600 seat Theatre Virginia space was provided.
